Composed in either 1859 or 1860 and published in 1861 in Leipzig. The Legende was dedicated to Isabella Hampton, Mr. Wieniawski's soon-to-be wife. It is a powerful and yet reasonably playable show piece. This melodic art-work has also become a favorite among violists; It has been adapted for the viola and the key changed to C minor.
