The second of the three op. 30 Sonatas, sometimes dubbed 'Eroica'. It is a grandiose sonata in four movements known for its intensity and excitement. Some sources suggest that Beethoven wished to remove the third movement due to its' incompatible character to the rest of the movements. Nonetheless it is considered a masterpiece and one of Beethoven's most celebrated violin works. Moritz Moszkowski transcribed the adagio for piano in August 1919.
