Elegy Op. 24 for Viola and Piano

By Gabriel Faure

Also called 'Elegie'. The piece was intended for cello and was orchestrated as well. Faure began his Elegy with the idea that it would be the third (slow) movement of his cello sonata. However the sonata was not finished and this movement has become an independent piece. The orchestrated version was performed with Pablo Casals on cello and Faure conducting in 1901.
